Wind in Cabarete

The first few days of February 2012 have been particularly good for wind in Cabarete. The wind meter atop The Watermark, installed and maintained by the Cabarete webcam located on Kite Beach Cabarete, has been recording some epic wind conditions. Take yesterday’s wind graph as an example.

Hitting a maximum of 26.9 knots late in the afternoon, there have been epic conditions to kite surf at Cabarete’s Kite Beach or wind surf in Cabarete’s Bay.

Great SUP surfing conditions at Kite Beach!

If you’re browsing the net early, local Cabarete (Dominican Republic/AST) time, you’ll often find stand up paddle surfers, or SUPers, out in the waves at Kite Beach. They’re a little far away most of the time but you can see them paddling about, catching the waves before the Cabarete trade winds come in.

There are several places to rent boards or get lessons. Stop by Dare2Fly, they have the best selection of boards from beginner to advanced. From 12ft plus cruisers down to 7ft surf style boards, they’re bound to have a board to suit your skill and style.

Happy Holidays!

The Cabarete Kite Beach Webcam wishes all visitors Happy Holidays and all the best for 2012.

2011 was a great year for the webcam. Here are some highlights:

  • We introduced a weather station with almost up-to-the-minute live data from the beach.
  • Started featuring local businesses who support the camera.
  • With Hurricane Irene, our video feed was also featured on “The Weather Channel.”
