Step-by-Step Guide to Inflating Your Stand Up Paddle Board

So, you’ve just purchased a brand new stand up paddle board and are ready to hit the water. But before you can do that, you’ll need to inflate your SUP. Don’t worry—inflating a SUP is much easier than it looks! Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to get your SUP ready for the water in no time.

Step 1: Get Your Gear Ready

Before you start inflating your SUP, make sure you have all of the necessary gear. You’ll need an electric or manual pump (depending on type of board), pressure gauge, and any other items that came with your particular SUP model. It’s also helpful to have a towel nearby in case of any unexpected spills. Once everything is gathered, it’s time to begin inflating!

Step 2: Plug in the Pump

If you have an electric pump, plug it into an outlet and attach the hose from the pump to the valve on your board. If you are using a manual pump, connect one end of the hose to the nozzle of the pump and attach the other end to valve on your board. If you are using an electric pump with an adapter kit, be sure that all pieces are connected properly before beginning inflation process.

Step 3: Start Inflating

Now it’s time for some serious pumping! Turn on your electric pump (or begin manually pumping) until the pressure gauge reads between 15-22 PSI (depending on your board). This will ensure that your board is properly inflated and won’t be over inflate or under inflated. Note: The maximum PSI recommended by most manufacturers is listed on the board, so make sure not go over that number when inflating your board!

Step 4: Check for Leaks

Once your SUP has been inflated, check for leaks by pressing down gently all around the edges of your board. If any air is escaping from around edges or seams, use a patch kit included with many models to patch up holes and prevent further leaking from occurring.

In just four easy steps, you can now confidently inflate and enjoy your inflatable stand up paddleboard! Make sure you always read manufacturer’s instructions closely before starting this process as every model may vary slightly depending on its construction materials and shape. Now all that’s left is for you to grab some sunscreen and enjoy some fun out on the water! Happy paddling!

The perfect adventure and touring inflatable SUP

The Red Paddle Co 12’6″ Voyager inflatable SUP board is an incredible exploring and cruising inflatable paddle board. We especially enjoy it for touring our local river and fishing from it. We’ve even fished with crab pots the deck is so large and convenient. Updated in 2021 with the revolutionary V-Hull, the sculpted bottom of the board breaks the surface tension of the water increasing glide and helping the board track even better than before. We find it works great on flat water, and up to medium chop. Even if loaded down with kids, it cut’s through the water smoothly and doesn’t push a lot of water like a normal iSUP with nose rocker does.

The 12’6″ Voyager inflatable paddle board is for those who want to know what is around the next bend in the river or in the next bay.

We got ours from Green Water Sports, the leading inflatable SUP shop.
